  1. Hi all,
As I am new to video capture and editing I am asking for some advice.

    My system is:
ASUS P2B-D M/B with dual Pentium II 400's
Diamond Viper 550 (TNT) graphics card
    512 MByte PC133 RAM
Adapter 2940U2W Ultra LVD SCSI card
    Dual Seagate Cheetah's 18GByte 10,000 RPM
Removable boot drive, Western Digital 20GByte, 7200 RPM ATA100
    One with Windows 2000 Pro
    One with Windows XP RC2
    One with Windows 98 SE
Lan card, sound card etc. etc

What I would like to do in a professional way without a $1,000 price tag is to D/L 8mm video from the Sony TVR40 camcorder into the PC, edit the sequence of clips, apply some title and effects like fade transistions, etc. and then out the edited video to a Sony VHS VCR so I can distribute copies. (I have two new Grand Daughters and everyone wants a copy)

I have been looking/reading on sites such as Tom Hardware and CNET but the reviews of cards like the ATI AIW Radeon seem to omit a.)the editing software and how functional it is (I have a lite copy of Adobe Premier) and b.)Can you output the video to a VCR and c.) no mention of the quality or resolution of the video viewed from the VCR.

    So my questions are:
    - Can I do what I want with the ATI AIW Radeon?
    - Can I output the edited video back to a VCR?
    - Will the quality of the edited video be close to the original?

And any suggestions that don't cost too much

    Thanks
    Roger

  2. i have an older ATI AIW (AIW 128) and, as the name suggests, the all in wonder can pretty much do it all. (well, all that you're asking anyways). as for the video editing, you'll have to find out what kind of software the radeon is packaged with on ATI's site, and read the reviews. The quality of the video will depend on how you capture it (codecs used, etc.) and if done properly, should look like the original. the AIW also has video out, so it is possible to hook it up to a vcr.
