I'm having problems getting my LG GDR8161b DVD Rom (v102 firmware) to recognise DVD-R disks. It will play commercial DVD's (Region 1 and 2) and DVD data disks OK, but will not recognise a DVD-R that I have burnt in my Optorite DD0203 writer (v2.16 firmware).
The drive doesn't recognise that a disk has been inserted.
I'm using Win XP Pro SP1, and don't have ASPI installed. I'm ripping and burning using Clone DVD (various versions inc latest) and have AnyDVD enabled to remove region protection. All the DVD-R's will playback on the Optorite drive and on my PS2. I use Power DVD 5 to playback on the PC.
Nero infotools tells me that the LG drive should recognise DVD-R media (but not DVD+R) which is correct. The medium I'm using is Bigpockets own brand 4x (datasafe manufacture).
I'm stuck. Any ideas ?

Thanks anyway, but I've just found out from another source that the Optorite drive is the cause of the problem.
Apparently the Optorite DD0203 produces DVD-R that cannot be read on PC DVD ROM's, although they work fine on standalone players.
The word "lemon" springs to mind !
