  1. Ok.. I'm goin got provide as much info as I can. My player is a JBO Portable VCD player. First I downloaded a pre-made vcd (bin, cue, etc) and it worked great. No chopping, freezing, sound issues, blocks, it was perfect. So then I just downloaded some mpeg's (not bin, had to use vcd easy) and they worked great as well on VCD.

Now here's where the problem is. I just encoded a video that was PAL (25 fps) directly to an ntsc mpeg in TMPGENC (29.97 fps). The source is great and the mpeg plays fine on my computer, but when converted to VCD it plays all choppy and crappy. Here are the exact tmpgenc settings:

    Res: 352x240
Aspect Ratio: 4:3 525 line (ntsc)
    Frame Rate: 29.97 fps
    Rate control mode: CBR
    Vid Bitrate: 1150
    Audio Bitrate:224
    VBV Buffer: 40kb
    Vid Format: NTSC
    non interlaced
    Motion Search Precision: Highest Quality

Now before you go posting "what are ur burn settings and media??", etc etc, note that the pre-made vcd's and pre encoded mpegs played fine when on VCD on the same player.

That wipes out the possibility of it being.. The player, the burning or media (always 4x with discjuggler), and the vcd making (VCDeasy). Meaning it must be something to do with the encoding. Some things i've thought of are...

-Too high bitrate.. but that's unlikely because the premade ones worked and they didn't look low bitrate

-Converting PAL avi to NTSC mpeg without changing fps in vdub first may be screwing something up.

    -TMPGEnc hates me..

If anyone knows wuts going on plz help me, thx

That looks a likley candidate to me.

You should convert Pal to NTSC Film, as it is closer in framerate. And for smooth playback, simply change the framerate and stretch the audio to match the new length.

  3. Don't have a clue, but change that Motion Search Precision: Highest Quality to High Quality, the extra time is just NOT worth it. The extra time would best be spent on VBR if you ask me.

Setting of like 0 minimum, 1150 average, 2500 maximum. Play with these to get reasonable results.

I would suggest using GoldWave to take the audio down to 23.97 fps and encode video at NTSC Film settings.

    Hope this helps.

This is no longer VCD compliant and so is unlikley to play correctly in a "JBO Portable VCD player"
