  1. i had a laptop like 6 months ago and it was fine going from laptop to tv.. i recently got a new laptop and when i connect it to my tv EVERYTHING shows except the video... even the shell of window media or divx player or realplayer shows properly but there is no movie just like a fuzzy black box where the movie should be.. if i right click i can see the menu box fine just no movie... i can see the movie on the laptop fine even when its connected to the tv but the tv shows no movie.. tried with several movies and all different players but no luck...

    any help is appreciated

  2. It is possible your movie is displayed as YUV (Overlayed)-DirectShow. It happens to me. Check if you can configure your display settings/TV out settings (RGB output). If you have installed PowerDVD try playing media files thru it. It does not give this problem.

    Most laptops treat video out as a second monitor. You have to enable it, then set it's resolution (800x600 @60 hz for NTS and @50 hz for PAL) for minimum hassle.

    Now here's the tricky part: Most players don't support a #2 monitor, ESPECIALLY if they use DirectX drivers(doesn't support 2 monitors, since it doesn't know how to deal with hardware acceleration). Don't do maximized, try it in a window first. If it goes blank when maximized, then it's a display issue. You can get around it 2 ways: Change primary and #2 designations, or make you player large, but not full screen and hope the outside goes into the overscan area. Alternately, chage the display mode from overlay to direct. I had to hunt to find a player that worked for my particular configuration.
