Well it could be a few things but many many people have problems using NERO to burn DVD recordable discs.

I would try another burning program.

I suggest using ImgTool (the classic version ... beware there are more than one version so make sure it is the classic version) and DVD Decrypter

ImgTool will make an ISO IMAGE file from a VIDEO TITLE SET (i.e., VIDEO_TS folder of DVD structured files) and then DVD Decrypter can BURN that ISO IMAGE file to a DVD recordable.

So try that and see if it solves your problem.

Another possible problem could be the type of media you are using. Try to get your hands on MADE IN JAPAN media such as FUJI or MAXELL or the BeAll brand of discs that many here have had used with great success.

It also could be that the DVD player you are using doesn't like the format you are using such as DVD-R or DVD+R etc. Some DVD players will only work with one or the other and some DVD players won't work either way.

If you're doing (S)VCD, try VCDEasy instead of Nero. If VCDEasy can't burn on your system, just create the cue/bin with VCDEasy, and burn this with Nero.
That said, 9 out of 10 dl'ed AVIs are riddled with errors to the point where at least I don't find it worth the trouble of trying to encode it to a nice mpeg.
