is VCD 702x480 or 352x240?

is capturing in 352x240 and capturing in 702x480 yields the same result in quality when i capture them in lossless?

i wonder why tmpegenc has 702x480 setting in VCD... we all know vcd resolution is 352x240..

Yes, if the source video is only 352 x 240, it will produce the same quality, as you are not getting any more information that is not already there in 352 x 240 format.

No, VCD for NTSC is 352x240

i recorded at 352x240 huffyuv then converted it using tmpegenc.

i was told the quality is not that good.

i guess i have to go back to 702 by 480, unfortunately, huffyuv won't set resolution between 702 by 480 and 352 by 240.

if you don't use 352 x 240, then you won't have a standard, compliant VCD..you will have an xVCD....less compatibility..but usually higher quality.

If you're capping from a VHS tape or something like that, capture 352x480 (if you can). The 480 is the important part. When you encode using TMPGENC to 352x240 (VCD dimensions), the vertical resolution of 480 gives you both fields of the frame and the encoder can produce a better quality image than when you capture directly to 352x240. Don't forget to tell TMPGENC to deinterlace the 352x480 cap.
