anyone know of a good site (like this one) that reviews sound card (like this site does capture cards)?

After hearing that I'll prolly drop frames while capturing with my onboard sound, looks like I need to buy a new one. My onboard is Analog Devices AD1885 and I'll be installing a ATI AIW 7500 or 8500dv

What have y'all heard about this card Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD Sound Card for $30us ? ?

I'm not a gamer or anything like that, just want to be able to capture with a new card without dropping frames....

or should I get a simple Creative Labs 16

Muse 5.1 is what I use with my AIW 7500,$30 at CompUSA.Sounds great,comes with PowerDVD 5.1 and captures 48khz.I get a high freq. shrill when I use the mic. but running the file through Audacity removes it.

You split out the video and a wav, filter the sound. then rejoin them?

I think you misunderstood,I only have problems recording voice through the mic for narration....sound from line-in is perfect.

Cool, I really never you my mic anyway, just the line in for the radio and stuff. You like the 7500? I was thinking it or the 8500dv. I don't have a movie cam yet, but I think the 8500dv is better for that?

Anyway, I appreciate your feedback

I like my AIW 7500,captures great video it cost me $130.I've read posts from people who say the 8500DV is crap but I've never tried it,the 9000 series has the new rage theater 200 chip and supposed to give better results.

I'm guessing this is referring to a comment I posted in another thread. If you need reviews sometimes shopping websites have links to reviews of the card.

I had suggested you used the Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo 7.1, but after seeing a review that the volume was very low and always had to be normalised after a record, and there was occasional distortion (these are normally just problems with onbaord sound) I decided I wanted a SB Audigy 2. I have used SB's in the past and have found them to be the best. I have not read up any reviews on the Hercules Muse 5.1 but MOVIEGEEK seems a pretty big audiophile so I'm sure he knows what he is talking about.

@MOVIEGEEK, concerning ATI AIW 8500DV, many people have said they have had problems with the digital TV tuners used in the card that were discontinued, but my captures have always appeared better than they do on my TV, although I rarely capture from an RF cable. The tests I have seen to compare digital tuners and analog tuners seem to have been done unfavourably towards the 8500DV, mainly by people who do not know how to conduct tests properly (eg. they feed a weak signal from a splitter into the 8500DV or they use cheap pre-constructed RF cables.
I have had no problems as such with the 8500DV.
