  1. I burn SVCD's currently and wondered if someone could tell me what the differance is. I have noticed it is non complient and offers higher bitrates.

TMPGE does not seem to have a template for these xSVCD.

    Thanks in Advance

there's no template because it's not standard...

basically, if you deviate from standard, you will have -X- of some format.

(i.e. deviate on bitrate, resolution, etc...)

yes, xSVCDs do offer higher bitrate.....but you need to make sure your dvd player supports them....because xSVCD isn't standard, it's not as compatible with dvd players as standard SVCD

  4. Thanks all,

I just checked I have a Decent Sony That plays ONLY DVD , says vcd but as u know with Sony it has to be just the right kind of day. Anyways I also have 2 Apex 1100W that play xSVCD so now I am very interested in this bitrate freedom. Will TMPGE encode to this format somehow?

  6. I will give it a go, but I think I have tried to increase bitrate before and it was locked to max out at 2520 or so.

  7. when you looked at the DVD player compatiblity chart, also...note the MAX xSVCD bitrate your dvd players can support....so, even if your dvd player can support xSVCDs, they might have a hard time playing them if your bitrate is set too high...

    -------

btw, you do know that by increasing bitrate, you will fit less and less video per CD-R, right???

even at standard SVCD, you could fit maybe max of 50 min. per CD-R for decent quality.

if you're gonna up the bitrate beyond the specs, you will fit even less per CD-R...

    -------

there should be a file called unlock.mcf in the template folder under tmpgenc. load that into tmpgenc and it should unlock the bitrate setting for you.

  8. I figured as much. I make SVCD from DVD currently with outstanding quality ( compliant SVCD ). I have found with my DV AVI files I cannot produce the same results even though the source is outstanding direct from Cam to TV. Therefore my clips can be much shorter than a movie and take advantage of the higher bitrate. I'm thrilled to try.

Thanks very much for your help!!!!!!!!!

If you want xsvcd's, look no further than EazyVCD, you can download it here = http://www.eazyvcd.tk/ ..

I've made back up copies of my own DVD's, such as The Matrix, The Patriot, ..they LOOK and SOUND just as good as the original.. all you have to do is simply tell it what you want, (vcd, xvcd, Svcd, xvcd) what folder you want the finished file to go, and how many cd's you want to make.

I made a back up of the new James Bond DVD, it's 2 hours 14 minutes, I told EazyVCD to do an xsvcd, to also use 2 80 minute cd's.. and it turned in 2 perfect mpegs (each mpeg will fill an 80 minute cd.).

Once the Mpegs are finished, then burn them with VCDEasy.

Best of all.. EazyVCD is FREE. (it uses all of the usual software, Vstrip, BeSweet, TmpgEnc, ect) The only thing that isn't free is the TmpgEnc Plus, which you need to have to be able to continue to make Mpeg 2 files.

Note;- if you don't want to buy TmpgEnc Plus, you CAN use the free Mpeg 2 codec that you will find on the TOOLS list to your left on this page. Place the Mpeg 2 codec in the TmpgEnc folder located in Program Files, then, open up TmpgEnc, open up OPTIONS> Environmental Settings, then click the VRAPI PLUG IN tab, you should see the Mpeg-2 codec listed there, right click on the codec, choose HIGHER setting, it should go up the list, then click OK.)

  10. Thanks,

I am going to try it, so far my xsvcd's are no where near the quality of my svcd'd.
