  1. Lately I got some Video CDs which plays well in standalone CD/DVD players, but while inserting into a P.C it is displayed as Audio CD. Explorer shows only two audio tracks with .cda extension. So where did the .dat files gone? Why these C.D's are not played in computer and how can this be fixed? I wonder if this is some kind of copy protection..

    Can any body help?

  4. There have been some problem inherent to Windows XP that can cause difficulty playing VCDs. There are some excellent guides on this website dealing explicitly with these problems, take a look at the "Guides" section, or go here: https://www.videohelp.com/play#vcd

This should ghet you up and going.

  5. I have VCDs like what Suresh Krishnan said. I'd try them in many PC with difference OS in it. So I am quite certain it is not a OS issue here.

Also, when look at the discs closely, I can see two / three types of tracks on the disc.

I guess there is some type of protection. But software like clonyXXL shown no results.

  6. MY VCDs work just fine with WinXP...

However, some commercial VCDs don't have an ISO filesystem or have one that is buggered up. This will usually confuse most OSes.

Stand-alone players read VCDs by looking at predefined sectors (for the PBC info) and the PBC links to other sectors info for the beginning of tracks, etc. Thus, they can usually survive just fine without the filesystem.
