  1. Must calm down first...ok, when I open Pinnacle Studio 8 up and I want to put an mpeg(2) file out to tape I hit "make movie", then "open file". Once I have done this, it appears that it is starting to load but then i get the message "Studio 8 has encountered a problem". This happens with every fricking mpg file I try to load for tape. Please get back to me if you know how to solve this problem/ know of any patches. Thanks

  2. Are you trying to put an mpg2 file on a tape? As in the tape in your camcorder? If that is the case, I'm not sure if it can be done. Usually, if you capture from your camcorder in AVI, then you can edit it and put it back on tape. If you have already encoded to mpg, then you should do something else with it, such as saving it to disk, burning it to DVD media, or burn to CD media, if it's a VCD.

If I misunderstood your question, please disregard. Good luck.

  3. falberni is right. You cannot output a mpeg2 to tape. It must be in DV format.

However, the error message you should be recieving is...

The file was not compressed with "DV Video Encoder", so it cannot be output to tape.
    Not some unknown error.

If you want to output to tape, you need to go to the edit screen, add the movie to the timeline at the bottom of the screen, then go to the Make Movie Screen, select tape, click create, then come back in about an hour as it converts it to DV. Then send it to the tape.

BTW, the current version of Studio is 8.5 so you know if you're up-to-date

  4. ok my version is 8.6, and the file is an mpeg2 file extracted from a vob dvd file. make tape works with captured mpg2 files from studio but not "foreign" video files from other sources..

Did you get a beta copy or something? Pinnacle's website only has a patch up to 8.5.20. Where did you get a copy of 8.6?

  6. Version 8.6 of Studio8 is the current warez version doing the rounds.
Which was taken from a software bundle by one of the Camera makers.

Version 8.6 is not noticably different to 8.5.21 which is the current offical patch. V8.6 is slighly modified for certain hardware of which I can not remember.

To solve the Studio 8 problem you will have to remove all the Pinnacle files and re-install from your original Studio 8 CD then take the update path from the installed version, it may also be nessecary to clear all Pinnacle entries in the registry.

  9. I think that solarjetman has the right solution to your problem. Not to steal your post but I also have Studio 8.6 that came with my Pinnacle Moviebox DV. Does your Studio recognise your DVD burner in DVD mode? Mine only recognises it in CD mode. .. harrymj3
