    Hey all.

I'm editing a DV capture in VirtualDub using the EDIT guide to the left. However, one scene is a bit dark, so I've used the brightness/contrast filter in VirtualDub to brighten it up. The problem is that I can now only save as uncompressed (about 9Gb for 5 mins!!! - I thought DV was uncompressed) or need to compress and lose some quality.

Is there any way to save usinf a DV codec, if there is such a thing?
    Regards,

    Rob

What DV codec is installed that you're able to view it in Vdub?? As far as creating a new .AVI is concerned, you should be able to go to Audio>Direct stream copy, Video>full processing, Video>compression, and pick your decompressor. I had the Panosonic DV.

Save as .AVI. I have a feeling that you're set up to save as a raw .AVI.

    Good luck......

It was captured straigh to Microsoft DV (type 2), and I'm using the DV enabled version of VirtualDub to edit it.

    Audio > Direct Stream Copy
    Video > Full Processing mode
    File > Save as AVI

    That's it.

    DV enabled version of Vdub!?

What is this that you speak of Luke Skywalker?? What is the name of the DV codec when you click before saving as .AVI? Most people just load a separate codec (ie Panosonic, Adaptec, Canopus), and use any old Vdub version....

    Interesting..

Hmmmm.......posted a reply yesterday, but it appears not o have been received.

OK. Some of the older versioins of Virtual Dub would not allow you to fully edit DV avi (i.e. strip the wav audio from the video etc) - I'm using one that does (1.4.xx). All I want to do is add some filters and then be able to save back to DV (type2), but that compression option is not available. Saving uncompressed gives a 9Gb file for 5 mins instead of about 1Gb). Any ideas?

    Alrighty now. Step by step.
If you wanna add filters, then you must full process your video. After you've selected your filters, and you scroll to the Video>compression, what Codecs do you see???
