lost quality when going from avi to vcd

i am currently very new to converting and burning to vcd's
i got a suggestion from a fellow converter to try nero.

i realy like how easy it is, but i am having some quality problems and sometimes the sound does not stay with video.

does anyone have any other suggestions for a program that is another step up for converting raw avi's and raw mpg's to vcd?

(that is not extremely dificult for a newbie to understand.)

I'm not surprised you're having quality problems, everyone says that Nero is crap for video conversion. Try TMPGEnc, it is one of the most popular programs on this site and is free for VCD's. There's a guide for it in the "Convert" section on the left hand margin. As for loss of sync, there can be many causes but a common one for Avi conversions is bad frames in the source video. Do a forum search or look in the Guides section for removing bad frames.

VCDs are not known for their top notch quality, so it depends on what you consider "quality". To make a VCD "compliant" the bitrate should be 1150. I use TMPGENc for converting AVI to MPG1 for use as VCD material.

Also, inspect the attributes and quality of your source AVI. If it doesn't look good there, then it won't look good as a VCD. If the AVI(depending on what compresion you're using, if any) may also not be compatible with what the VCD standards are.

Wihout more information in the specs and what you're making into VCD(not specific titles, but live action or cartoon and also is it heavy on action sequnces or not) will also make it easier for people here to help you.
