  1. I have a video that is 272x640 and whenever I encode it (TMPGenc) and try to burn it (NERO), I get an error that says it is invalid etc. What can I do to correct this?

i think you have to have it on the right standards. For example, VCD is 352x240 Vid 1150 KBS Aud 224 KBS. If you dont have it on the right standard you wouldnt be able to burn it correctly.

  3. How can I do that without messing up the picture ratio and still keeping the whole picture?

Changing the resolution will not screw up the picture ratio. Use a standard VCD template in TMPGEnc and leave it at the standard resolution. Under Video Arrange Method select Full Screen (keep aspect ratio). Stick to the standards like Jeff suggests.

  5. I've tried encoding it several times and I still get following message:
The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\file1.mpg' is invalid, need MPEG-2 which was encoded for Super Video CD:
    audio: 44.1kHz MPEG-1/2, layer 2;
    stereo/dual-channel/multi-channel
    video: 480x480 at 29.97Hz or 480x576 at 25Hz

    The following problems were found:
    - stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super] Video-CD
    - invalid video stream: 23.976 frames/second, 640x272 pixels

You are creating a Super Video CD V1.0 compliant CD, but the MPEG file is not suitable for such a disc.
    any suggestions?

  7. When I burn as a VCD I get this error:

The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\File.mpg' is invalid, need MPEG-1 which was encoded for Video-CD:
    audio: 44.1kHz; stereo; 224kBit/s
    video: 352x240/29.97Hz or 352x240/23.976Hz or 352x288/25Hz

    The following problems were found:
    - stream encoding which is invalid for a [Super] Video-CD
    - invalid video stream: 23.976 frames/second, 640x272 pixels

You are creating a Video CD V2.0 (CD-i player) compliant CD, but the MPEG file is not suitable for such a disc.
    any more suggestions?
    thanx in advance.

  9. ....OR you CAN encode it as a SVCD in TMPGEnc and burn it as a SVCD in Nero....but the quality won't be any better and the resulting file might not fit on a disc....BAD IDEA!

    SO in review....

Encode the file in TMPGEnc using the VCD template and using the full screen (keep aspect ratio) under video arrange method as suggested above. If you need the wizard to guide you just hit [CTRL+W] and it'll pop up.

Then when you burn to Nero...make sure you pick VIDEO CD.....*NOT* SUPER VIDEO CD!!

    You should be golden.

I use Nero quite a lot, and personally, if I need to burn a VCD or SVCD, just use VCDEasy

It works every time, and so far, I have had no error messages and even when burning a VCD that other software refuses to burn due to being too big, VCDEasy handles it perfectly

Plus, VCDEasy is free, well supported and very simple to use, with very good included guides on how to do various tasks using VCDEasy

Have a look, its quite a small installation, and won't cost you anything but a bit of your time

  11. I figured out what I was doing wrong:

I had to change the size to 480x480 and keep aspect ratio (it cut it off a lil bit, but at least it works), and I was burning as MPEG-2 instead of MPEG-2 SVCD.

    Thanks for your help guys.
