    I'm newb....
trying to split an avi in virtual dub for later svcd authoring, the key frames, which on the rest of my movies are at camera shifts and scene changes, r only one every 10 seconds. So the first part of the movie cuts where I want, but the second wont cut and kicks back to the last key frame. SO, i end up with a 1st half of a movie cut where i want, and the second part with about a 6 sec overlap, right in the middle of a sentence. Any help? am I out of luck because of the key frame placement?

    plz help

  2. Don't cut the avi prior to encoding, have TMPGenc do it for you. (keeping in mind that final MPEG file size is the result of runtime x bitrate).

    1) Load favorite template in TMPGenc.

    2) Click on settings

    3) Click on the advance tab, then double on source range

    4) Choose the start/stop points for the first 1/2 of the movie (TMPGenc will insert an I-frame at this point)

    5) Choose "File | Save project."

    6) Repeat for the 2nd 1/2 of the movie, save project

    7) Choose "file | batch encode", select both projects, and hit run

Remember when using source range that the final size of the MPEG is based on bitrate x source runtime. For VCDs that works out to 1min=10MB (eg. 75min video = 750MB MPEG1 file). If you're not making VCDs use a bitrate calculator to determine bitrate for your desired runtime.
