  1. Hello. I don't Know if I'm missing something or if I have a bad drive but I can't seem to burn playable VCDs or SVCDs. VCDEasy seems to work pretty good but not the best quality. I had some problems with the type media I was using and after trying several different brands I found one that worked reasonibly well. NERO is my first choice but doesn't seem to work. The version I am using is 5.5.9.14. On some media I can record with NERO and it will play in my DVD player with a lot of pixelation and hesitations and sometimes stops completely. On other media my player says "Unplayable Disc". I have updated my drivers and turned off all other programs when burning. I have burned from 1x to 8x speed with no change. All my videos have been in standard format for VCD or SVCD. My drive is listed as being supported by NERO and my DVD player supports VCD and SVCD.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    D. E.

  2. Ok here's something you can try. I can't guarantee that it'll work, but for some freaky reason it worked for me. Try changing your CD writers IDE connection to PIO mode (Go to device manager->IDE Controllers ->Secondary IDE Channel (usually your CDwriter)->Advanced Settings and change the transfer mode to PIO . Ditch Nero and just drag and drop the mpg file into VCDEasy and burn.

As I say, it may or may not work. I had just about given up with my burner after having no luck with every type of media, speed etc. when I tried this and for some reason it worked.

    Good luck

  3. I have this same problem. burned MPEG1 onto SVCD using various programs. none will play in my DVD player. can it be the player or is it usually related to the computer. the new Samsung player is supposed to play all formats. I have given up.

let me know if you get yours to work.

  4. SVCD should be MPEG2 not MPEG1 video. Read the what is SVCD at the top left of this page. Next download and burn the SVCD sample and see if that works or not. If you meant VCD and not SVCD, try the VCD sample available for download. If these work check your capture settings again to make sure that your files are compatible. Try analyzing the files with MPEGed (freeware) or reencoding the files as well to see if that may help. Also look at the readers comments about your DVD player under OTHER at the left of the page. Some new players do not support VCD anymore. Also try the disks in some other DVD players to see if they work on them or not. Hope this helps and good luck.

  5. Thanks everyone for the responses. Since I last wrote I have updated NERO to 5.5.10.20. This seems to work but is still fussy about the type media I use to burn to. For instance, if I use Imation it doesn't work (very pixilated and stops or doesn't recognize disc). If I use HiVal then I get a pretty good recording so maybe my player is somewhat at fault. I am going to try all the suggestions listed above in the other posts and will post back with results from each trial. My DVD player had only one review so I will add to it when I have done some more experimenting.

    Thanks again,
    D. E.

  6. To be quite frank about it, Nero stinks for encoding period. I had the same prob a while back and paid for Ulead MF2 and does the same thing. Going to use virtualdub to extract the wav and re-encode with tmpgenc and then burn w/ulead. I hope this fixes my probs too. As far as media goes, personally I steer clear of Verbatim. My player gets weird with those discs. I only use Memorex now and get much better results so far.

  7. Ok. I have tried a number of different things and here are my results:
Try changing your CD writers IDE connection to PIO mode
I checked and my CD/RW drive was already set this way.
I only use Memorex now and get much better results so far.]
I have tried using Memorex and it does make a big difference!!! So far everything on Memorex works just fine. My main program for capture, editing and encoding has been MainConcept's MainActor (NOW 5.0.0.1). I really like the editing capabilities but the encoding to SVCD could be a lot better. I also use TMPG for encoding SVCDs (2 pass), this has great quality. Now burning with NERO or VCDEasy the results are about the same. I think my player is a little shaky. Other people have played my SVCDs on their players and had no trouble. Bottom line is that media has made a big difference and the capabilities of the DVD player are a big factor. I paid around $100 for my unit. My friends have more expensive ones that give less problems. I hope this post helps others looking for answers or dirrection. Thanks all for your help.
