I just bought a couple of video capture cards to try out.
I need to know if I should upgrade to a better video card as well? Does the acceleration of my graphics card affect how my computer will capture video from the capture card? I may be upgrading my computer or building a new one. I would like to know if I should be looking for a motherboard with AGP 8X support? I am thinking it only affects displaying the video?
    Any replies are appreciated! Thanks!

    One more question..........
Is the only way to capture DV and 8mm though a camcorder? Do they make adapters for VHS for any tapes other than VHSC? I want to capture various types of video, but do not have a camcorder. I want to capture old movies as well. I read something about some sort of 2 sided box for transfering old movies, but cannot find the information now.
    Thanks again!

I would have thought yes, the only way to capture DV and 8mm is via the 'DV out' on a camcorder, although you could run it through your vcr and capture to your pc although this seems pretty pointless.
It would make far more sense to buy a firewire card and capture the dv as a lossless avi.
As far as the box goes I think you may be talking about one of the Canopus analogue to digital converters.
I hear they're excellent but I capture old vhs movies via my £35.00 ATI Radeon 64mb DDR ViVo and am very happy with the quality.
If you buy a camcorder with anologue passthrough you can run your vhs through the camcorder and capture those as lossless avi's too.
