  1. I tried to play a divx 5.0 file with Windows Media Player 8. It is 123,000 KB in size. The player gives me the following error:

"Not enough storage to complete this operation"

I have about 17 gigs free on my hard drive and I can't understand this message. BTW I have almost all codecs, i.e. Nimo, etc. Can anybody explain this? Also, it will play in the Divx Player but I cant fastforward through it. It will not play in PowerDvd.

  2. Although I never got an answer to this, I think I figured out what the problem was.

I wanted to post this so that if anyone else has this problem they will have an answer.

I downloaded this divx file and was having the problem above. It turns out that when the avi was encoded, it only had one keyframe. I learned this when looking at it in Virtualdub. I deduced that Windows Media Player 8 can't play a lage file with 1 keyframe. I think that there is a way to fix the problem with Vdub, however I did not attempt.

Hope this helps anyone with the same prob.

  3. This is how you fix that problem with Vdub:

Open up Virtualdub, click file, then open, and make sure you check "Popup extended open options" before double clicking on the file you want to open. After you choose the file that needs to be fixed, you'll get the extended open options dialogue box, make sure you check "Re-derive keyframe flags" before continuing, the rest of the options can be left at their default settings.

After the scanning and processing is finished (this might take a long time) BEFORE YOU CLOSE VDUB make sure you choose audio-direct stream copy and video-direct stream copy and then choose file-save as AVI, choose a name for the new movie and let 'er rip. When this operations is complete, you can delete the original file and you are done!
