audio quits 3 seconds in after encoding

hi, after encoding to mpeg 1 using TMPGEnc, or several other encoding programs, all files have audio for the first 3 seconds only.
all files had consistant audio prior to encoding.
what causes the audio to stop after 3 seconds? thanks.

Did you scan and remove bad frames? They can cause the problem you describe.
