I don't know if this is the right forum to ask this question but here it goes:
Is there a way to record shows from tv to my computers harddisk?
If there is, what is the best and most practical way to do this?
I have ati-radeon-vivo64mg-ddr video card.

Yes, using VirtualDub. See the "capture" section under "How To" on the menu to the left.

if this is your first foray into capturing you could always use ati's built in recording feature in Multimedia Center 7.7--AVOID at all costs recording into their .vcr format though--shoot for the mpeg-1 or mpeg-2 standard settings depending on your ultimate use. As you become more familiar with what you are doing then you could expand to virtualdub, or other capture programs that really let you tailor your capturing for maximum quality. I say read all the guides to the left first depending on what it is you're doing and then read posts, ask questions and away you go!
I started with, and currently use, the vivo and have found it to be a really decent card. -
IUVCR (see the downloads section) does a real nice job for AVI format, and 30 day free trial. PowerVCR is more user friendly but only captures on MPGEG1/2 format.
