I have used Video Studio 5 and the DVD plugin for quite some time. Yesterday, I loaded the "Patch_E" upgrade, and now the plugin doesn't work. It makes it most of the way through the process and gives me a "Drive Not Ready" error.
I tried different media, files, burn speeds with no success. I even tried a file I had burned earlier that day with the same plug in. Also the burner is working fine with Adaptec software.
Any ideas or similar experience?

My PC was running WinMe and I was having problems previewing DV Type-1 in VideoStudio 5.0. I upgraded my PC to dual-boot WinMe/Win2000. Everything runs fine (under Win 2000) after installing everything except VideoStudio's 2nd Patch. I was able to burn fine using their DVD Plug-In. But if I install the 2nd VideoStudio patch I can't open MPEG files in VideoStudio or Media Player. Did you install the 2nd Patch?

This is not much help but I have applied all the patches to VS5 & DVD plug-in and no problems. I am running win98 se.

I don't know if the patches work, but it was extremely frustrating to not know the plug in patches are not for the early version of the plug-in called goDVD. If you have this version the patches will come back with plug-in not found. You need to redownload the patch from original source. Not a big deal, except this info doesn't seem to be generally known. I discovered it in the license.txt file of the dvd plug-in. Plus it mentions this patch is beta. In fact... here I'll copy it in this message:
Thank you for beta testing this patch program. Any problem reporting
and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
This beta patch is for currently Ulead DVD Plug-in Customer only.
It requires the released version of Ulead DVD Plug-in installed
on the system.
IMPORTANT: This patch only works for "Ulead DVD Plug-in". If you bought
the plug-in earlier and the dialog box shows "Ulead GoDVD! Plug-in",
Please contact Ulead Systems for a replacement.
Ulead Technical Support is not responsible for this beta patch, so
please do not call or email tech support for any problem regarding
this beta patch.
THIS PATCH IS FOR BETA TESTING ONLY. ULEAD SYSTEMS GIVES NO WARRANTY,
EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, FOR THE SOFTWARE AND/OR DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED,
INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY AND WARRANTY
OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.
.... end of copy
The good news is if the patch installs you have right dvd plug-in. You can also tell by reading the patch name in your control panel - uninstall programs. The old version will say goDVD. The current newer one won't
best wishes

I have an idea. Contact ULEAD! It's their software, they're the ones who need to be notified that the patch is buggy.

Well, for those interested here is what I did:
Tried to email Ulead through their tech support form but the form they request you use, will not load.
So I called tech support. That person said the solution is to un-install the update and go back to the original version. His claim is that the update only adds additional burner support, no extra features.
Well the website has two update files and the first clearly states improved handling of mpgs. When you try to load a higher than standard bitrate VCD or SVCD to the updated software, it responds "do you want to proceed with an XVCD or XSVCD". Lamont are you burning any non-standard rate files?
I gave up arguing with the guy as he claimed they have no support for non-standard rates. I un-installed, re-installed the original. Then, just for laughs, I made a 2,000 kbps VCD file in TMPGENc. Loaded it into Ulead and burned it with no problem! The result looks much better than the standard rate.
I still like the Ulead product, but it is frustrating when you finally reach their tech help and they stonewall your question. -
I had the Go-DVD Plug-in and called Ulead Tech support. Ulead replaced the GoDVD Plug-in with the DVD plug-in. I am familiar with beta patch you are referring as I was one of a number of people who tested it. This beta patch is now fully tested and is released as part of the Power DVD update at the Ulead web site. I backed out the beta patch and appled the Power DVD patch and all the features were there. The features include X(VCD), X(SVCD) and SVCD Advanced features (folder & file naming etc.) Yes, I have burned um all.
