  1. just after a few pointers on capturing

i,ve a 455mhz, 128 ram, using belkin video bus 2 to capture. So far have test captured with virtual dub and they appear ok. what i would like to know are

    1. what is an average drop rate for say a 15 second capture (i,ve defragged and closed all other programmes etc slowed frame rate.)
    2. what is recommended as a compression (at present testing with pic and divx)
    3. Does compression lower picture quality and what tips are there for better quality picture
    4. Can i save as avi capture and then burn as avi with nero onto vcd.

    ta.

    2. No compression (Uncompressed). You get the highest quality that way.
    3. Yes, compression lowers quality. You could use a high bitrate for a better quality picture.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

Did you capture the file with audio? If you did, what compression codec did you use?

  6. thanks again for the help. one last question the bane of all capture problems i believe - dropping frames. I'm dropping around 30 in a minute clip at 12fps which is very ordinary. I've done all the basics, defrag close all other programs etc. I've read somewhere i need to enable DMA on my hard drive. Firstly what is this and secondly when I goto enable this I get a message saying it may conflict some of my hardware.

    the capture story goes:
you should capture with huffyuv or mjpeg yuy2 is better than rgb. audio never compressed, make sure line-in is selected on recording and the highest resolution your cap device and pc can handle, 480x480 or 352x480(pal)
acceptable dropped frames are 1 in 10,000 frames or 1 dropped frame per 5 and a half min cap, more than that starts to give jerky and uneven playback
hope that answers some of your questions
