just after a few pointers on capturing
i,ve a 455mhz, 128 ram, using belkin video bus 2 to capture. So far have test captured with virtual dub and they appear ok. what i would like to know are
1. what is an average drop rate for say a 15 second capture (i,ve defragged and closed all other programmes etc slowed frame rate.)
2. what is recommended as a compression (at present testing with pic and divx)
3. Does compression lower picture quality and what tips are there for better quality picture
4. Can i save as avi capture and then burn as avi with nero onto vcd.
ta.

I've done all the basics, defrag close all other programs etc. I've read somewhere i need to enable DMA on my hard drive. Firstly what is this and secondly when I goto enable this I get a message saying it may conflict some of my hardware.

the capture story goes:
you should capture with huffyuv or mjpeg yuy2 is better than rgb. audio never compressed, make sure line-in is selected on recording and the highest resolution your cap device and pc can handle, 480x480 or 352x480(pal)
acceptable dropped frames are 1 in 10,000 frames or 1 dropped frame per 5 and a half min cap, more than that starts to give jerky and uneven playback
hope that answers some of your questions"The software said Win XP or better, so I Installed Linux"
