    Hello all.

I am trying to encode my (s)vcd collection of burned tv shows so i can burn them on a dvd.
Burning vcd and make an dvd out of it works like a charm.
Burning svcd to an dvd doesnt work.
I have tried the svcd header trick and all but with no luck.

Next thing I have tried to use is dvd2avi on the mpeg2 file. i have had 2 files that were converted to vcd correctly (with dvd2avi and TMPGenc) but right now i am having some problems.

I use dvd2avi on the mpeg2 file which results in 2 files...an mpa file (audio) and an .d2v file (video)

When i want to encode them with TMPGenc like its descibed on this page : https://www.videohelp.com/mpeg2tovcd.htm my TMPGenc program crashes. Therefor i cannot continue to encode the svcd to vcd.

I have tried to change the DirectShow Multimedia File Reader trick but that didnt help either.

I hope someone can help me.

2 files worked with no problem (dvd2avi saw them as videotype FILM) but the fle i am on now doesnt work (dvd2avis sees it as NTSC)

    TIA.

    Buzzie.

Some DVD players don't like SVCD authored onto DVD.

    Hiya,

Well as long as the svcd is encoded to vcd, and like i said in my post i am encoding them to vcd, there is no problem. My dvd player plays them fine.

But i still have the crashing TMPGenc so i cant continue.

    Anyone?

  4. Hey Buzzie

I've put dozens of SVCDs onto DVD. There are two main things you have to do.

1 - (Temporarily) change the width and height of the SVCD to be DVD compliant.

2 - Convert the audio from 44 KHz to 48 KHz

To do this you need the following programs (I've tried others but these work for me)

AVEstensione - This sets / resets the width and height in the SVCD header
TMPEnc - To demux SVCD, convert Wav to MPA
DB Power Amp - To convert MP2 to WAV @ 48 KHz
Spruce Up - To author DVD

First thing you have to do is prepare all the SVCD files. Lets assume the one we are using is called abc.mpg

Load TMPGEnc and select the tools option. Demux the file to Video and Audio (Use simple Demux). You will now have abc.m2v and abc.mp2

If you have installed AVEstensione, right click on abc.m2v and look at the properties. The right hand TAB wil have some tools. Click patch fro DVD.

Run DB Power amp and load and convert abc.mp2 @ 44 KHz to abc.wav @ 48 KHz.

Load TMPGEnc and start a new project. Select Audio only and load the abc.wav, the output will be automatically set at abc.mp2 - rename this to abc.mpa. Make sure the output at the bottom is still 48 KHz

Note - You can use abc.wav with Spruce Up but its way too big, converting back to Mpa reduces size.

Once you have finished converting the files, either move or delete the abc.mpg, abc.mp2 and abc.wav files so they dont get in the way.

Load Spruce Up and start a new project. Load abc.m2v, abc.mpa will be automatically loaded. Create a menu screen, add a button, associate the abc.m2v with the button and save the project.

Exit Spruce UP and right click on abc.m2v to get at the properties menu. Select the restore SVCD header option to reset the width / height options.

Run Spruce Up, load the project and author it. When finished burn the DVD.

When you are actually doing the conversion you will have more than one SVCD file. Demuxing has to be done one at a time, but conversion in DB Power Amp, TMPGEnc and loading M2v into Spruce Up can be done in batches.

Longest part is converting the Audio - about 30 minutes for a 2 hour movie.

Any questions just ask. Its all fairly easy once you get going and the results are very good.
