can anybody explain when using ulead media pro 6 when applying transitions how do you get it to show the next clip at the same time as the transition. all i get is the transition and a black background ,when the transition has completed then it moves to the next clip

I've never used the program but I can take a guess; are there two or more streams in the video section i.e. one for the actual video clips and another for the transitions? If there are the videos should be on one stream end-to-end and the transition placed in the other stream centered between the two video clips. You can't overlay clips/transitions on the same stream.

there are two streams and the programme only lets you place the transition on the effects stream .even placing it between the end of a clip and the beginning of the next as the transition is taking place it does not show the next clip untill the transition has completed. does not happen on any other programme such as ulead video studio or pinnacle studio

Not sure then, if the program is not re-encoding the video, which it would have to to integrate the transition this may be why, otherwise without re-encoding at least the affected sections, it would only be able to insert the transition between the clips. This is assuming that this is not just in the preview but the final output as well. Some programs may not have real-time preview.
