  1. I've burned several VCDs to CDRWs to play on my Sony DVP-S560D. The VCDs play fine on my PC all the way to the end. But on my player (as well as a few friends, non-Sonys) there are frame skips, freezes, and pixellation starting at about the 40 minute mark. I use Nero (5.0.4. to burn the VCDs.

Has anyone seen this problem? If so, any solutions? Any suggestions?

    TIA,
    Tman-Z

hmmmm, try one or more of the following:

    - a full erase of the CD-RW before burning
    - burning at a slower speed, 2X
    - use a different batch/spindle of CD-RW discs

Is is the same on all discs? Did you try different CD-R? Or, maybe I can offer another explanation?...

I had a similar problem on my Apex. Here's how it goes. I had movies that had a "synch drift" problem if I just used the output from TMPGEnc alone (video would speed up or slow to a crawl while audio continued). So, I figured the solution was to demultiplex/remultiplex, with bbMPEG. I did, and the synch problem was gone. HOWEVER...

When I played the disc (any disc done this way), suddenly there were glitches. A sudden skip on the same place in the movie every time I burned, it was a flurry of macroblocks, then it continued on normally.

Turns out, when I ran it through bbMPEG, I had "Align Sequence Headers" checked for VCD options... turns out this made the glitches! Left unchecked, everythings fine now. All the while I was blaming the discs, NERO, or the Apex ROM drive...

This looks a lot like what you described... I didn't know how you were encoding, but just another "heads-up" to a possibility...

  4. All of the VCDs I have burned were encoded by others. I will try and de/re multiplex the files and see if that works. I will also try slower record speeds and full erases. Anything to get this to work....

Thanks and keep the ideas coming.
