Dear experts:
Thanks for taking time clicking on my subject.
This is a problem about Nero 4.0
a few days ago, I was backing up my original copy of NHL2000
at speed of 8x. When the burning percent reaches 88%, suddenly, everything freezes. My screen, the two little light on my Creative RW, and it freezes my mind as well.
I had trouble unfreeze and "Ctrl+Alt+Del" method doesnt work here. The 2 little light still on( I believe my RW mechine is freeze). So I was forced to turn off my computer.
Right after that accident and restart of my mechine. When ever I call upon the Nero program from its shortcut I created on Start menu. My screen goes blue for .0 second. During the .0 second, I can see on the top, there are some messages, but it is too fast to read. After the blue screen, my computer restarts without letter me see my desktop again.
I tried reinstalling the Nero 4.0 and my RW drive. it wont work. I am glad the RW drive have no problem to read a CD. But when ever I call on Nero progream, my comp restarts.
Anyone knows a solution of this??
The helpless burner

Sorry, my friend. I believe that nobody can help you, because I think that's a some hardware problem (dificult to help you in a forum). You must look for a hardware store.

funkykev100, you wouldn't happen to also have Roxio/Adaptec EasyCDCreator installed would you?
If you have any CD-R/CD-RW software from Roxio/Adaptec installed and running on your system, Nero will have problems. I think the majority of the problem lies in the fact that Roxio/Adaptec installs a system handler for disks so you can treat CDs like any other drive and just copy files back and forth. Nero has the same thing. When you put the two together you get a lethal combination.
If you go to the Nero website they have a "boot loader" for Windows 9x (95, 98, ME) to allow you to choose Adaptec or Nero upon boot of Windows. Windows NT and 2000 users are left out in the cold though.
Hopefully this answer is more helpful than Mr lafamar's.

I suppose you're using Windows 2000 and have checked the option to automaticly reboot on system failure (this is on by default, can be found on My Comp->Advenced->Startup and recovery). For some reason your forced turnoff corrupted the cdwriter drivers and thus reboots your computer every time you try to use your writer. By the way, if you tried to make your backup on-the-fly at 8x, that's probably the reason for Nero freezing. It's a lot safer to create image to hard disk first.
To correct your problem, you have to uninstall Nero first and REBOOT. If you have any other CD writing software, uninstall them as well, and reboot after every unistallation. After this you should be able to install Nero and write CDs without problems again.
I wouln't recommend to install any other burning software on the same system. I had problems with Nero and win98SE even after the bootloader. Now I have EasyCD Creator 3.5, WinOnCD 3.8 and CDRWin 3.8 b on Win 98 and Nero + CloneCD on Win 2k. Especially packet cd writing software and Nero on same OS is a very, very bad idea (maybe Aheads InCD works with Nero).
