  1. Using one of the tutorials here regarding avi to vcd I tried converting a divx version a movie. it is in two parts. the first part is 730mb, the 2nd part 700mb. the first part went fine, i used vdub to extract the audio, then i used tmpg to merge the avi and wav into a single mpeg. the trouble arose when i tried doing the same for the 2nd file. Although the 2nd file was 700mb, the wav file that was extracted was 900mb! i didn everything exactly the same, so i am confused as to where it went wrong.

the only difference i noticed is that when i opened the 2nd avi file in vdub, i got a msg "an improper VBR audio ... (bitrate 162 + 32.8kbps)"

on the first part of the movie, the 730mb file, i received the same msg, except at the end "(bitrate 162 + 32.8kbps)", it said another number instead of 162.

hope someone can help me, so i can get this movie into vcd format.

    thx!

900mb for a wav file is not wrong.

Sounds right. 700-1100 MB/hour for extracted audio. Remember you going from compressed MP3 to PCM WAV. That's roughly 12/14-1 compression difference.

  4. but with a 945mb wav file, when i combine it with the 700mb avi file, the mpeg file is 930mb...and thats too big for a cd

i just dont understand why the first part of the movie came out as a 730mb mpeg file and they were the same size...

the size of the original avi has nothing to do with the final mpg.
