    Hi,

I've been a minidisc fan for a long time and I really like the audio quality of sony atract compression codec. A few months ago I found Sony Atrac 3 codec for windows.

I been doing some testing and I think it works OK.

Any experiences out there regarding the use of Atrac 3 codec for AVI files creation?

    Thanks.

Could be an OK idea, but it is limited in terms of compression efficiency-compared to other newer codecs. Most people here are trying to eak out every available quality per MB or bitrate. Also, not that many people have that codec so it would really only work well as a personal backup solution.

What I see that would be cool would be if you could do a straight digital Xfer via an SPDIF connection from MiniDisc to Computer. Then there would be no A-to-D and D-to-A loss of quality.

Do some experiments and let us know...

  3. If someone doesn't have the codec on their computer then they could not play your files. For personal use though it would probably be a good codec compared to some others.
