  1. Hi,

my friend is new to backing up his DVDs and he has recently produced his first one. he used DVDx and the SVCD mpg file plays FINE one his hard drive, with either Windows Media Player or Power DVD. However, as soon as he burns the file onto a CD-R (using nero, either in SVCD format or just as a data file) when he plays it (on his PC) he gets lots of problems, mainly just lots of lines and it is completly unwatchable. One would assume that it was his burner because it plays fine when it is on the hard drive but he borrowed my burner and the same problem happened! he is running a 1 Gig T-Bird and 256 Megs Ram, with a nice new motherboard and Win 98SE.

Does any one have any ideas as to what the problem is??? maybe there are some patches to fix it or something? seems funny that he has had problems but i havn;t????

Thanks a lot everyone, i wasn;t sure what catagory to put this in so if it is in the wrong one then i appologise, cheers for your advice!!!!

  2. Strange, have you tried any other burning software ?

Also have you tried any different brands of disc ?

I am clutching at straws here.

  4. Interesting.

Try burning mpeg file to CD as DATA. Copy back to HD. Play. Also copy back to HD on YOUR machine. Play. If OK, then burn and test on your machine. If the data file is OK on your machine, and the burn also, then he has a software problem or a faulty interface to the CD.

This will determine if the file is being corrupted when written to the CD, or during playback. It may well be that the CD or interface is causing a playback problem.

When he borrowed your burner, did he try playback on your burner or his? If on yours, then its either interface, media, or software.
