  1. When I plug in my Sony Camcorder into the firewire it does not detect my camera.

My computer originally came with a firewire card-and I have never used it before

I tried to go into Device Manager and update it but it still doesn't work

    I have a Compaq Presario 5630 & I have Windows Me

    Any ideas would be appreciated

    Here's some ideas to try:
    1) Ensure the PC's device manager shows the "1394 Controller" (or similar) is working properly
    2) ensure all cabling is in the right places
    3) ensure the camcorder is in the PLAYBACK mode, not the recorder mode (this is a common problem !)
    4) you haven't mentioned software. It is actually the software that connects to the camcorder via the firewire card.
If you haven't got software, try some demo software from Sonic Foundry or Ulead.
    5) In the software, make sure you select the appropriate capture device.

    Hope this helps for now....
