Hope someone can help. I have been downloading avi files for ages now and have only recently noticed that all my converted avi and xvid movies have perfect audio but a slight slow down in motion.
I use the same frame rate etc as the source file but every 5 - 10 seconds or so the movement will slow down.
I am using TMPG to convert the files and have tried everthing i know. Has anybody else been having similar problems?
Please Help!
Mat

what are you converting it to? what format?
and what software are you using to play it? -
Doesn't matter what i convert it to and what bitrate it is. MPEG 2 & MPEG 1 both have the same slight jerkyness.
I have used WMP, Playa, Vidomi, WINDVD and my Pioneer 444s dvd player for the resulting burned svcd/vcd.

Hmm seems strange, well my possible answer to this would be the codec the divx/xvid carries within the avi file.. And tmpgenc is ignoring that fact that it jerks.... umm try to convert it to normal AVI and then re encode it to mpg

I'm also having that problem. I have converted a few xvid movies to svcd and have noticed that when play them back on my dvd player that the do stutter a bit. Using TMPGEnc to convert and splitting the movie over 2 cds. Anyone shed any light on this??

I too have the same problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont know if its just me but ever since the xvid codec started to be used it made the issue of codecs more problematic. I had to try three different codecs before I could get one that actually worked on my pc.
I like DivX codecs more!
I had a post on the same topic:

I agree, It's not a problem with TMPG cuz it works fine when u rip a dvd and encode it with TMPG.
It's the codecs and the lack of compatability with programs. -
in tmpgenc
try using 'AUTOMIC VBR (CQ_VBR)' under rate control mode.
and MAKE SURE you choose a motion search besides 'motion estimate search (fast)'
I had this problem and posted it here. Those settings solved my problem with video pausing or jumping or skipping with newer AVIs I converted to mpeg2 in tmpgenc. My player was an apex 1010w.
