  1. Hi all,

I have an 11min .AVI file that was recorded with PAL. What I want to do output this file to an NTSC VCR tape, using my Pinnacle Studio Deluxe.

Originall I had thought I could just load the the AVI into Pinnacle's Studio 7 software that I have and output it then onto the tape. Problem was that the version of Studio 7 I have does not support PAL.

The next I tried to do is use TMPGEnc to convert the PAL AVI to an NTSC mpeg. This worked but for some reason it would not convert the audio from the PAL avi, and so I only got video. I then ripped the audio from the PAL AVI file (using Virtual Dub) and used TMPGEnc again, this time manually putting in the audio that I ripped from the PAL AVI. This worked. When I played the mpeg back however, the sound stuttered, throughout the whole video.

Next I tried using Pinnacle's softare again. This time I converted the PAL AVI to an NTSC mpeg (via TMPGEnc--with NO sound though), then back to an AVI, and loaded the file into Studio 7. This worked. Then I tried loading the sound I had ripped from the PAL AVI earlier into Studio 7 as well. This worked, but the sound was the wrong length and did not even play back.

Now I'm stuck as to where to go next. The sound must be using some sort of compression but I don't know what. BTW, the sound is .wav format. I tried to find out using Virtual Dub, but under compression for the audio it said "unknown (tag 0050)". Does anybody have any idea how I can figure out what kind of audio compression this PAL AVI has, so I can get it to work somehow? Or is there another way for me to output the original PAL AVI to an NTSC videotape?

Thanks in Advance for the help.

  2. IMHO your problem is trivial. There is a good manual on this site about how to convert between PAL and NTSC. Read it!
The sound must be processed (by GoldWave for example) separately to correct its length.

  3. Hi,

Is this the guide you are referring to?

    http://www.vcdhelp.com/pal2ntsc/pal2ntsc.htm

If so, I think I read that guide, but I guess I don't see how it helps in my situation. If this is not the right link, could you post it here?

Also, how can I get goldwave? Is is freeware/shareware? Is there another program I can use to correct the length of the sound? Thanks again for all your help.

Definitely NOT ! That one is stupid. It shouldn't be published at all. But it's up to moderators, you know.

What I had in mind is:

About GoldWave - it could be downloaded from their site. It's not free but it's fully operational.
