what's goin on?

I tried burning a vcd with nero and it wouldn't burn, it did but the disk is still blank, and it comes up with nero has to encodoe this and this takes hours.
I've got a normal burner, will this work.
Im new to the whole vcd/dvd scene.

Don't use Nero to encode your video to VCD compatible MPEG-1. Nero is not a good MPEG encoder.

Use another MPEG encoder like TMPGEnc instead.

okay, i encoded it and it still came up that error message. do i need to change setting in tmpeg then encode it out.
PLEASE HELP!!!
