  1. I have a Samsung SD-612 and I've never had any problems reading a disc...Then today when I try to play Y Tu Mama Tambien, it either freezes my computer completly or tells me that the disc is not readable, that it might be dirty or scratched...I tried it on another computer, worked just fine, tried it on my stand-alone and worked fine as well....I've tried a few other dvd software and none of them worked...is there anything I can do?

  2. purchase a lens cleaner for your drive.. they're pretty cheap.. if that doesnt work, buy a new drive.

  4. Hello everyone, I have a very simaler problem with my samsung sd612b dvd-rom drive. It acts very weird, it will play some dvd's but not others, it will play vcd's . some dvd's just refuse to play, some play one time then won't play again. it seems to have a problem with goldish looking disc's. I have been searching for the answer to this. would a firmware update fix this, I have a cleaning disc, it made no diff. I have downloaded a firmware update but am afraid to use it as there seems to be different ones for certain manufacter's I have a HP xt856 that came with dvd=rom installed it has allways had problems of one kind or another with some dvd's. If anybody knows about flashing firmware to this drive please help me out. Thanks

Maybe your dvd can't play dvds from other regions. For example if your dvd is zone it cannot play dvd from zone 2

  6. No it's not a region thing all dvd's I have are region 1 US. It's just real picky about what disc's it wants to play, It has me stumped ,earlier I even took it apart and physicaly cleaned the eye no change it still refuses to play some dvd's. even some I know for sure it played before, I was thinking a firmware update would possibly allow it to see more dvd's. It will play certain dvd's, just not all.
