does anybody use Ulead Video Studio 5, to capture your avi files, i have done loads of tests using various settings and as soon as i have captured a clip, before i encode it the audio is not in sinc with the video, first of all you dont notice it but when it has been running for a few minutes it slowly goes out of sinc, if you have an answere for this i would love to hear from you, i am at my wits end
cheers

It sounds like your cpu can't keep up.
You never mentioned what you are running, but if you have less then a p2 300 you might have problems.
You might have to upgrade to be able to capture

Do this: capture in "high quality MPEG1" instead. Set your video to 1150, your audio to 44100/224, and since your processor is 500mhz- I would set the performance to "9". Use MPEG Raw (352x240 NTSC setting). You won't have to encode or anything, and the quality is decent. I have Ulead4 which is similiar.

when i use 224kmps for audio it comes out crap, in Ulead 5 it seems the only audio setting i have when i do it manaully is 172 Kpms, and isnt 352x240 NTSC setting for American DVD, i have been using 352x288 PAL, i have to be carfull what i use because it eats too much hard drive space, i only have just under 5 GB free, i done a film last night and the audio was only very slightly out of sinc, that was after 1.5 hrs recording, you didnt really notice it out of since, but will be interested to hear what you think of my settings

352X240 is the proper VCD setting. You definitely need to set your audio to 244/44100 and have your video date rate at atleast 1150. These settings are a must if you want to keep the video and audio in sync. When I used their preset VCD capture, the video data rate was set at 1123. I bumped it to the proper setting of 1150 and suddenly...the video and audio were in proper sync. Hope this helps. I am pretty sure the basic set up in Ulead VS4 are identical to 5.
