  1. I merged a bunch of mpeg2 files, some were 3000kbps, some were 4000, and some were 6000.

It worked fine (the merging) but when I try to watch the file, it skips, etc, and god forbid I try to use a slider bar, it shows the frame I jumped to but it just stops. When I burn it to DVD it plays but begins to skip.

Is there a way to deal with this? Is merging different bitrates bad? Is there a program that can rewrite the header, or something (I don't have a total understanding of all the terminology, so forgive me)

    I tried to demulti/remulti, etc.

12 hours ? just load them all up except the highest bit rate one and re-encode them at the highest bit rate of what you have so far .. use CBR 6000

    should be real quick

  4. i ended up doing that, but I didn't want to because now I can't fit it all on one disc.

Am I right though, is this "against the rules"? (merging different bitrate files)

well - technically you can do it but not really a great idea depending how you do it ...

you can use a program like M2 edit pro (prev version !! 4 , 5 screws up on this chore) , or rewrite the bit rate headers (bitrate viewer full version can do this) and use almost any joiner

or other joiners that work on diff bite rates ->
maestro (it does a excellent job) , or vitec mpeg edit pro 2 . there may be some others ..

the methods i list above will work ..

poor man way -> create a dvd with all assets -> create vobs -> use stream ripper in stream mode and demux to a single seperate file ..

you could also join them together in a transport stream and convert the mess to program stream .

do I use smartripper? I don't see the option to demux to a single file? I see demux, but it only does one of the assets, not the whole disc...

smartripper i meant to say ... got to stream tab and rip to a seperate demux stream - it will produce 1 mpeg file ending in a .m2v file

  8. again, it will only do one of the assets, not the whole disc. and the way you are wording it, is not a choice in smartripper.

You said: got to stream tab and rip to a seperate demux stream - it will produce 1 mpeg file ending in a .m2v file

there is demux to extra file and direct stream copy, but it only does it for the first asset on the disc.

    Help please!

i just tried it and it works . i made a fake dvd made up of 4 elements of different bit rates and 1 was cbr , the rest vbr ... i made the VOBS in a program called vitec instant dvd but the same thing would apply in other authoring programs ..

there were 2 vob files in the VIDEO_TS directory ..

i used smartripper and stream mode and demux to extra file and it made 1 mpeg stream of the whole thing ..

  10. so I make the vobs with smartripper,

then use smartripper to create the extra file from the vobs (not the disc?)

I made the vobs by ripping the dvd with smartripper. I ended up with about 6 vobs.

under input, it shows the 60 "tracks" (my assets)

and when I try to select all of them, it won't work.

when I demux to seperate file, it will only do one file at a time.

Am I doing this wrong? It sounds like you are doing this from the vobs after ripping them from the disc.

I am confused, and you are my only hope!
