  1. Please look at this picture:

And then tell me how can I get rid of those lines at the bottome of the screen in my captured avi files using Virtual Dub Huffuv@720*480 44Khz. Is there a filter I can use ? or it will go away when I encode it into mpeg and put on a DVD to watch on my TV ?

  3. If you are capturing from an analogue tape, that is normal and if you are planning on playing it on a TV you wont see it due to overscan. If you really want to get rid of it you can crop it off using virtualdub.

  4. Craigtucker: yes you were right about those lines. They were gone when I am watching it on my TV I guess it was out of scan on the TV or something. I can still see it on my computer when i play my DVD-R. Ok but i have some questions to ask.

    1. How com my picture comes out really "shaky" on my DVD-R ???

    2. My video is Interlaced on my TV. But on my computer screen it's normal. So i guess i messed up during my encode from avi to mpg right ?

  5. Hey Craigtucker, I have a question....according to my last post those lines were gone when I watch on my TV because they were out of scan or out of range of the TV. But my question is ...How do I get rid of it ?? I don't like those ugly lines at the bottom of the video. Is there a way or a filter that I can use to get rid of those line ??

  6. You can use virtualdub to crop the image, or the way I do it (assuming you are using TMPGEnc to encode to mpeg), is to use the clip frame option under settings->advanced in TMPGEnc.

  7. hey thanks for that little tip. I guess I can do it..but then I have to recapture my video because I cap. @ 720*480. And those lines are at the bottom of my video so I am going to clip the bottom like 10frames that leaves me at 720*470 and that's not DVD spec. So do you suggest that I should cap. at 720*490 or just 10 or more frames for each so that when after I encode I can still be in the 720*480 spec. Or maybe I don't have to do that because I used the DVD NTSC template and it's at 720*480 already. So my encoded MPG well be in DVD spec.???

Hey since you are helping me at this, and looks like u know alot about capturing. I have a question for you. I don't know if u know it or not but here goes.

Ok my captured AVI is 720*480 Interlace right ? those line I see on my monitor will be gone when i watch on TV right..?? Ok with that said. What I did was cut some 20sec clips out of my huge AVI using VirtualDub. And edit it in VegasVideo as my menus for my DVD. Ok so my question is how come after I edit it ..like resizing my 20sec clips to little clips as my chapters. And add some fancy pluging for effects. After all of that I "render" my video as avi and use TMPGenc to encode to MPG. My little clips in my menus are interlaced...why ??? I tried all the different combonations settings in TMPG. trying to get rid of Interlace for my menus I can't do it. why ??? I even try to "render" in VegasVideo as MPG and it still Interlace when I watch on my TV. But on the computer it looks fine. So can u give me some tips on "rendering" in VegasVideos as AVI or what settings should I use in TMPGenc so interlacing is not there any more when i watch on my TV???

P.S. I used the same settings in TMPGenc. for my main video and it's NOT interlace when I watch on my TV. Just my menus after I resize it in VegasVideos Interlace...???? Is it true that when I resize an Interlace video into smaller size it becomes Interlace ?? that's what one of the guys told me....

If you use tmpgenc's clip frame option you can check the "mask" box to replace the cropped area with solid black, preserving the original resolution.

There is no need to recapture, tmpgenc resizes after cropping so that the video is within spec.

In setting ->advanced there is a deinterlace selection box if you want to deinterlace your video. However, it sounds like what you are experiencing is not interlacing. TV's support interlacing so if you play an interlaced video on your TV it sould play correctly. PC monitors are progressive and do not support interlacing, so if you played an interlaced video on your PC monitor this is when you would notice interlacing artifacts. You seem to be getting the reverse to this, noticing interlacing on your TV and not on your PC. I do not know why this sould be the case.
