I just converted Hart's War to SVCD using CQ where my min bitrate was 1000 and max was 2520. When i play it, its jerks VERY MUCH. I think this is simply a matter of the bitrate being too high, so my question is. Can i simply reencode the mpg generated with a lower bitrate without losing quality (other than what will obviously be lost by lowering it)?? thanks in advance

whenever you encode at a lower bitrate, you're going to lose quality. but too high a bitrate shouldn't cause the video to be jerky.

In that case, what would cause the video to jerk? I just burned Episodes I and II and they had relatively little jerking.

yes, im NTSC as well. after the initial encoding i burned the mpg produced and it jerked like crazy. i re-econded that mpg and produced another with lower bitrate and burned it--i just played it and it has no sound. that's not really an issue though; but what can i do to prevent jerkiness?

if there's nothign else i can do, i think im just going to re-encode the movie. i just got the stats on the original and they are:
23.976, 640x272, and audio is 48,000. Would you mind suggesting some settings that 1) will prevent jerkiness and 2) you've found successful -
settings i use are 29.97fps 720x480 at 2000 kb/s. audio 44.100 at 224 kb/s. the only time i had jerkiness was when i used 23 fps by accident.
