  1. Where can I get some information on VCR with TBC, Time Base Corrector, or, stand alone TBC's. Like most others, I'd not like to spend a million bucks.

  2. I would not get a VHS VCR with a TBC. I have tried it, and it did not correct the biggest problem with VHS playback, poor vertical sync. Only a stand alone TBC works (for me). The cheapest (and smallest) TBC is the TBC-100, a PCI card for the PC. You can also get the TBC-1000, a stand alone unit. It has composite and S-video in and outs, and both are a full frame TBC. You do not need any reference, the TBC will lock to any video, even noise. The TBC-100 and 1000 are made by Datavideo. The TBC-1000 costs $299, and the TBC-100 is less ($250). You can also check eBay for TBC's, but they are mostly huge old commercial TBC's. Not all TBC's are compatible with VHS video, and some need a reference, and others are not a full frame TBC (and will not work with a VHS VCR). There are also frame synchronizers, and they will also not work with a VCR.

I have a TBC-1000, and it works well. Also has multiple outputs, which can be handy. Only thing I wish I had done was to get one of the upper models that has video processing adjustments. But to get one of those, you need to double the price (or more).
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
