    miniDV Tape Route:
Yes, you heard/read correctly. To capture to your DV cam, you need to
connect your TV source to your DV cam's A/V plugin area - - usually marked
with a Yello circled (o) hole.
Then, you pop in an miniDV tape, and press record on your DV cam.
Remember, to switch your DV cam to VCR mode for this.

    The PassThrough Route:
    .
    .
Then, set your DV cam to PassThrough mode via your DV cams Menu.

Mind you, the 2nd route, you wont be able to replay what you recorded
thorugh your passthrough. Once you delete the DV avi file from off your
hd, if you find you made a mistake, you'll have to wait for another time
when your TV will air that program again.

Since my DV cam does not have passthrough, I use the miniDV tape route.
Anyways, I prefer it, since I can redo the DV transfer or A/V Capture over
again, if I need to. I have plenty of miniDV tape stock, so I don't have to
worry about running out or being limited to 1 or 2 or these.

I have a Sony Digital-8 camcorder. I was thinking of using it to capture/record DVD in real time using a DVD player-to-Digital8-to-E-30 DVD recorder. I want to make backups of my DVD collection, near 200 DVDs. I have a sima unit but it only works to enable me to make tapes of DVDs. I expect that would also be in the loop. How I hate it when they mess with my ability to backup MY movies I pay good money for.
