  4. Yes, I must ask the same question... Greg12 what do you mean by VirtualDub doesn't support DivX or MPEG?

VirtualDub is the main program most people here use to convert/create DivX files. Its only a Codec.

VirtualDub supports MPEG just as well too.

Please provide more info on your accusations.

whenever i try to encode an avi in divx, it gives me a warning saying it may crash. then it just idles. it does not encode.

also, i can't use it to encode mpegs.

i know mpeg 1 source code is public domain.

  6. so, is it virtual dub 1.4.6 that under windows 200 that does not support divx or mpg?

To encode to mpg using virtual dub use DVMpg, its selectable under video compression (same area as the divx codex) and choose the type of mpg, vcd, mpg1 es or ps, etc...

  7. Greg12, it may be your DivX codec. I know VirtualDub will warn you (upon first start) if you have an unsupported or "hacked" DivX codec installed. One problem it mentions is that the program may die while trying to encode using a "hacked" DivX codec.

I believe I got this warning when I was using the Krystal DivX codec(s).

  8. I don't understand Greg12's problems.
I have 3 different DivX codecs and all working good (build in; 3,11 Alfa; 4.0 final).
I have many MPEG1 and MPEG2 codecs and they work too.

Greg12 download the new version and try again.
... but may be problems is in your OS.

  9. Would one of you gentlemen who says he has mpeg1 and 2 codecs as option to select for compression in VirtualDub explain how it is that they got them there?!
I'd love to skip framserving to tmpge.

  10. You cannot do real-time Mpeg compression with Vdub, you have to use Tmpeg or another encoder AFTER you have captured the AVI file.

  11. Can you tell me what MPEG1 & 2 CODECS you are using and how good/bad each of them are?

    Thanks
