I watched the Hannibal tonight on DVD. I originally saw it in the theaters when it came out and like many felt it lacked that thing that made Hannibal Hannibal. This evening watching the deleted and alternate scenes I saw what should have been in the movie and what could have really made it great. For those of you who have not seen it or plan to I specifically am referring to the Il Mostro part in Deleted and Alternate scenes. If these little parts alone had been in the movie it would have been 100% better. Most of the scenes in this section really are great and would have made the movie much better. Damn movie execs screaming about time ruining another good movie buy hacking the crap out of it!

Yeh I know. Movie execs cutting movies down just so simpletons won't get bored. I dont think that Hannibal could live upto Silence of the Lambs though without the original director or without Jodie Foster.

Hi to pacmania, What about this, Can't those sections be edited into your own vcd version and if anyone does have a go let me know cos I would be iterested in a copy, I might even have a go at it myself. Cheers .....likkletree

After watching all the originals I listened to Scott's commentary's. What he says is on the money for the most part when he says the Il Mostro part would confuse some, but if he would just have Hannibal recognize Il Mostro when the two are face to face, despite what Scott said it would be cool. Just not enough of Hannibal using his superior intellect and messing with people for me.
As for re-editing. I really don't have the resources, time, or overwhelming desire to take on such a complex and daunting task at this time. Video editing something like that would be such a pain in the ass. Someday maybe... -
It would be very hard to do a clean job of editing in these scenes. I have only had a quick glimpse at these scenes at the video shop(so not 100% sure) but most deleted scenes in DVD's are "unpolished" for lack of a better word. Good to try though.

Once you sit down with them you will see that actually the quality is really good. I know what you mean by "unpolished" though. Most have the numbers on the top and bottom of the frames, but these scenes are just as good as the movie. The one forseeable problem would be the score. I had to return Hannibal to Blockbuster today, but if I remember the was only the audio on the deleted scenes and no score what so ever so intertwining deleted scenes would probably sound odd in some places that had the score being played in the background.

Heres one for ya when you rip the DVD also rip the deleted scens to different folder and use dvd to Avi then tmpg you know the drill. For ME Myself and Irene i actually used TMPG to put the deleted scenes right where they should be using cut and join. my friend has also done this using Camel which from what im hearing is better. I got mine almost perfect but his is seamless I am working on fear and loathing but it is hard to get the scenes in the exact spot but I have done it and it adds to the movie if you like that sort of thing

Nice one majinbu why not have a go at Hannibal then ? Or better still get your mate to do it !!

All depends on the type of scenes they leave out and whether like Sullen said whether they have a score over the top. Also I think this would probably be against the law even if you own the DVD but I dont think that would matter to most people.
