  3. As long as they're on CD-R, almost anything will be able to read the disk.

Where you may have trouble is if you have a really old CD-ROM, it may not be able to read CD-RWs. Most IDE drives that are 8 speed onwards will probably be okay with them but 6 and unders or the old 2 and 4 speeds will likely have trouble.

    Hope this helps,

  4. I think maybe what he's trying to determine is whether the DVD playback software runs on machines without any actual DVD drive. I would also be curious to know the answer to this.

  5. Kineera,
The answer to that one is also yes. I don't have a DVD Rom but I've used the Ravisent DVD player software that came with my Matrox Marvel. Darn thing even auto detects and plays when I stick a VCD in the CD drive.

  6. Yes, most/all software DVD players will run on PCs without a DVD-ROM drive. For obvious reasons, you just wont be able to play DVDs on them.

As for the original question, the answer is yes. As timmy said, your CD-ROM drive must be really old (e.g., single spin or can't read Mode2 XA) for it not to read a S/VCD.
