  1. HELLO TO ALL

I WANTED TO ASK WHEN YOU OPEN UP A VCD BY FOLDERS USING WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER, U USE THE FOLDER, (MPEGAV) AND THEN DOUBLE CLICK ON THE FILE "AVSEQ01.DAT" FILE.

I WAS TOLD THAT MPEG 1 FILES ARE THE SAME AS A AVSEQ01 FILE...IS THIS TRUE??? I NOTICED THIS DAT FILE IS MOST OF NOT ALL THE MOVIE SINCE THE SIZE OF THIS FILE (AVSEQ01.DAT) WAS SOO BIG.

    ANYONE GOT ANYTHING ON THIS?

  2. As I understand it, the dat file and the mpg are the same thing. The only difference is that the dat contains additional information so that it can play on a vcd player. I may be wrong about what is contained on the dat file, but yes, the dat is the movie file.

  3. THANK YOU SOO MUCH LEPY FOR HITTING ME BACK WITH THAT!

ANYONE ELSE KNOW ABOUT THIS? DOES THE DAT FILE HAVE MORE INFO ON IT THEN JUST A MPG FILE?

    THANKS

  4. It's not a pure MPEG1 stream, you should use run it through a converter first. I believe a tool like VCDCutter can do this, or de-muxing and re-muxing it using the tool of your choice may accomplish the same thing. Don't know the exact details of what's different about it, however.

  5. kinneera to the resuce again!

well, thanks for hitt me off again with the info. I just got a copy of vcd cutter but, its only the demo version and, i see it does this type of file conversion

    convert mov - avi
    avi - mpg
    dvd split - ac3,m2v,mp3
    vcd convert: DAT MPG/M1V/MP3
    divide mpg to small multiparts
mplex m1v, mp3 to system stream
    split system stream to m1v,mp3

tell me but, i cant see the converstion from .mpg - .dat files or, am i not seeing something here.

Thanks for all your help kinneera!!!

  6. I believe the "vcd convert: dat mpg/m1v/mp3" option is the one you want. Your goal is to convert the .dat to .mpg, correct?

IM TRYING TO GET A MPEG1 FILE TO CONVERT OVER TO A AVSEQ01.DAT FILE.

  8. You need a VCD authoring tool. There's a little more to creating the VCD format than just turning the MPG into a DAT. Popular programs that can do this for you are VCDImager (Freeware, under the tools section), Nero, EZCD Creator Deluxe 5.0, or WinOnCD.

  9. yes..i know thier is more the just the dat file but, i was thinking if a change the dat file on a vcd, using all the other same folders that a vcd uses, i can change the movie, chaing the dat file only.

  10. I don't recommend that. Other files, such as scandata.dat in other folders, interact with the .dat file in important ways. One of the most basic problems you might encounter is that the real length of the movie doesn't match what the disc reports to the player. Author each VCD individually, with the desired MPG file, to avoid any problems.

  13. WELL, THANKS..I GUESS I CANT MESS AROUND WITH A VCD LIKE A THOUGHT.. ALL THE FILE I GUESS GO IN THE ORDER WITH THE MOVIE.

I WANTED TO MAKE A HYBRID DISK THAT CAN PLAY SEPRATE AUDIO FILES AND HAVE THE SAME CD TO PLAY VCD (VIDOE) CLIPS ON A DVD/VCD PLAYER.

  14. I saw a similar question in another post earlier today. Trying to create a hybrid VCD/audio CD disc is basically asking the impossible. (You have to remember that a VCD is actually two sessions on the disc). Unfortunately, you just have to create two discs and stick them in a 2-disc jewel case, I guess.
