    How come I never learn? Quite a while back, I upgraded my ASPI layer with Adaptec 4.70. Worked like a charm, all trusted command line utilities like CDRDAO, cdrecord et al worked flawlessly.
    Saw that Adaptec had released 4.71.2, and happily downloaded this. Quite opposite to my usual habits, I actually made a backup of my old ASPI related files before installing the new version. All of a sudden nothing works! Even "cdrecord -scanbus" causes my box to reboot without even displaying an error message! KaBoom!
    Boy, was I happy I backed these old ASPI files up before upgrading... Back at 4.70, and operations back at normal.
    Anyone else with success/failure stories with the latest ASPI drivers?

  2. They work fine on my system, but I needed some additional registry settings! Without tweaking the registry setting of the ASPI drivers, they didn't work.

  4. After searching for the fix of ASPI in WinXP I came across a site that had a .reg that will fix the ASPI drivers. Let me see... This is what you need:

    ---8<---------------------------
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Aspi32]
    "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001
    "Type"=dword:00000001
    "Start"=dword:00000002

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\Aspi32\Parameters]
    "ExcludeMiniports"=""
    ---8<---------------------------

    Save this into a file with whatever name you want and .reg extension and double click to import, or manually add this values. Some systems need Start=1. Hope this helps.

    Thanx, I'll try tonight

    Installation went OK, but no differences with some programs I had problems with.
