I'm caturing from a laserdisc and would like to maintain pcm audio when I burn to DVD. Tmpegenc converts the audio to mpeg when I encode the avi to mpeg2. Any suggestions?

  2. Try capturing your audio to a seperate PCM file, tell TMPGenc to encode a video only file, and then mux the video and files later on in your authoring software.

    Edit:
Late afterthought - TMPGEnc supports PCM audio by default. I'm looking at the startup wizard for 2.59.47.155 and there are two options that you can choose from, mp2 and PCM. Wouldn't you just have to select the latter option?

Digitoast is correct, TmpGEnc gives you a choice of PCM or mp2.

DVD workshop supports PCM, and will not re-encode complaint mpgs when it authors. BUT, to get PCM, you have to select the "custom" option at the burn menu, otherwise it will reencode to mpeg audio even if you have the "do not convert" option checked.

  5. I have not used a DVD authoring package yet that does NOT allow PCM audio. Spruce up requires it in a seperate file, Dazzle DVD complete will accept seperate files or multiplexed, Ulead DVD WS will accept it (and not convert if you set the options correctly).

In fact, I believe it is a requirement that ALL DVD's have at least one PCM audio track which is why some apps (like MyDvd) insist on converting all audio to PCM!

Strictly speaking, the apps that allow you to NOT have PCM audio are the ones breaking the standards.

I am using Ulead Movie Factory to author menus and burn to dvd. It only allows you to use an mpeg file to create the menu from. It won't import a m2v and wav file that Tmpgenc will create if you do pcm audio .

So I guess I'm looking for a DVD menu and authoring tool that will allow m2v and wav files to be imported to the menu creation portion.

  7. DVDit! PE allows the use of audio in a number formats. If the audio is already PCM or 2 channel AC3, it will use it as is. If there is ANY Dolby Digital in your project, it converts ALL sound to Dolby Digital.

Ahh, I havn't actually tried Movie factory, only DVD Work Shop from Ulead. That certainly allows inport of PCM audio streams (Don't have it installed at the mo so can't check wether they have to be multiplexed or elementary streams, soory). I am surprised Movie Factory only supports mp2 audio thi I think that app was originally designed for (S)VCD authoring and DVD came later (or as an addon, not sure) so that may be why only mp2 is allowed.

Well, I've burned a number of DVD's over the past couple of days using both WAV files and AC3 (2 Channel) as the source. WAV files need to be 48KHz, AC3 needs to be NO MORE THAN 2 channels

DVD WS 1.3 allows import of elementary streams; 1.2 and lower don't.
