  1. Hi all,

I've captured a movie with windows moviemaker, which is saved in .wmv and virtualdub doesn't want to open it, due to copyright issues.

I have several older versions of VirtualDub which do open the file, but error out on it not being a RIFF file OR not having a WMV2-decoder.

Ideally I'd like to convert the wmv to divx.

    Any ideas?

Have you tried to open the file in TMPGEnc? If it does open, select File-->
Output to file...-->AVI. Then select filename, codec (DivX), then Save

  3. The new Movie Maker Beta 2 now out saves files also as DV AVI. This encodes nicely in TMPGenc.

I hate to knock a moderator's advice, but if you run XP, KEEP AWAY FROM THE NEW MOVIE MAKER!!! It and the new Media Player are so buggy on my XP system, it makes me wake up in the middle of the night with cold sweats.

For example, The new Movie Maker crashes with no warning or error message when ever I try a transition, and does not seem to want to do any conversions.

And the new Media Player does not like my MPEG-2 Files.

And good luck with Microsoft's customer service.
    Hello.

  5. You get what you pay for. I do NOT endorse it fully but it is stable on my system but some transitions do have bugs. If he wanted to input a WMF and output a AVI then this might do the trick on an XP system.
