avertv capture problem

Newbie question - can capture fine from ntsc format camcorder in vcd quality. try to capture in vcd quality from pal source and i can only capture abour 5 minutes before the whole system locks up (freezes mouse keyboard and picture, althouhg sound still plays)
If I increase the capture size (say svcd) then i get about 10 seconds before the system freezes.
any help at this stage would be most welcome

I had this exact same problem mostly; what I would suggest is disabling every other device in Properties under My Computer that isn't required for capturing (like modem, scanner, et cetera).

I kept freezing in after 5-10 min with my AverTV Studio, but after disabling the modem and ethernet card, it's working like a charm.

If you feel brave you can start re-enabling stuff if it works and find the pesky single item.
