  2. Do a search on this web site. You cannot pick whatever you want. If you live in Europe, you have to use PAL, in the US you use NTSC.

    Actually, in Europe, I believe all DVD players will play both formats and Most TV's sold within the last 10-15 years are also multi standard (i.e will handle Pal or NTSC signals via composite, S-video or RGB connections, but not by RF). From what I hear tho I believe that the same is not true in the US and equipment sold there, TV's anyway, are mostly NTSC only.

    As far as quality goes, when it comes to (S)VCD or DVD, I don't think there is much to choose between them. Some prefer 1 over the other but having seen both they look OK to me.

    Broadcast TV on the other hand is different. From my limited viewing of US TV, I believe European broadcast to be of generaly higher quality. However I must admit this may be simply due to the crap distribution systems in the cheap hotels my emplyer insists I stay in!
