  1. First,

THANK YOU for looking at my situation. People like you make this forum successful!

I have been capturing video for a little while now. My problem is that I have a HDTV and am using a 32MB Geforce 1 card for TV-OUT and the picture is crappy(see below for more info) considering I have a HDTV. My settings are at 800X600, which are the maximum considering my drivers (Nvidia Detonator variety)

Is there any software which will improve my reception? I can barely read text. It simply is not legible! My drivers are up to date. my computer is tweeked for performance and all background apps are closed (capturing video, ya know.)

Any assistance would be helpful. It's almost as though my tv output (Via the Svideo cable) is interlaced.

  2. Which output chip does your TV out use??? BT or Phillips (It should say in the advanced display settings for your card) There is a program called TV Tool that can help some. And your output IS Interlaced. All Analog Tvout cards are interlaced. No Way to change that.

  3. I discovered this when I set up my rig for tvout not sure why people are bragging about using tv out for net surfing and such its really hard to read!!! You basically have to push up the dpi (in display properties) - use large fonts, etc.

You can also go download powerstrip, since you have a HDTV, and set custom resolutions/timings - not for the timid but can apparently make a big difference to the quality.

sorry cannot be more helpful, perhaps more people on here can give tips lol

  4. Thank you for the Replies!

I have the Conexant Bt869 TV encoder chip.

Do you think that the programs will make a difference in my viewing? (what I will be able to see?)

I've heard about TV Tool before but haven't heard anyone who's actually used the product to say how well it worked. Also, is Powerstrip like TV Tool? Where can I get/research that program.

The last statement/question I have at this point is: It makes me sick to se the lies that computer makers are spitting out (TV experience) to get you to buy their product. ===>http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/mediacenter/evaluation/whyupgrade/top10.asp I mean, when I connected my computer into my HDTV, I was let down. Is there any hardware that will eliminate the interlacing and let me display at 1080p or whatever resolution my Toshiba 32" tv will support?

    All information is sincerely appreciated

  5. Tv tool can help, there are a few settings lat can lession artifacts. As far as viewing at 1080I, does your HDTV have an SVGA input? IF not then your only chance would be to find a TV card that has Componant out. I've not yet seen one, but I am sure they probably exist.

  6. I do plan on building another system in the near future. With that being said, is it possible to have in the same system:

    1) a video card (of course)
    2) my current capture card (leadtek winfast2000XP deluxe-which is GREAT)
    3) a TV card (with component out ) for when I connect my comp to my TV?

Unfortunately, I've already researched my TV and it doesn't have SVGA input.

I'm just worried that by having 3 different video related cards, I'll get incompatabilities to no end!

  7. Actually, thats exactly what powerstrip lets you do. I haven't used tv tool (it says for nvidia cards only though ?!?) but have used powerstrip for years for several different tasks. But what it can do, is set say 1080p and 4580 this and that I don't understand lol, and things for HDtv and projectors etc. You will need to do some research, but if you go here - http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm to get powerstrip, and go to avsforum http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?s=7c274d5dfeeb0b26264d1bc62cc60f8c&forumid=26 (sorry long link!) if thats broken just go to www.avsforum.com and select HTPC forum. There is information in there on what timings etc to set to get much better resolution.

hope this is helpful to you or anyone else.

    cheers

  8. Thank you again for all the replies. I'm going to evaluate all the information on programs and also take a look at that other board. I know what I'm going to be doing all weekend! (reading!)
