Is there any method to convert DV AVI so that Virtual Dub will accept it?

Search the threads for more discussion on this topic, but essentially:
    1. The file needs to be a type 2 avi so virtualdub can read the audio. Ulead has a free type1 to type2 converter (you just need free HD space and time).
    2. You need a non-directshow codec for DV. Mainconcept and at few others make these free for decoding on their websites. Also see the tools sections for some website links.

Voila, virtualdub can open type2 DV files with the appropriate VfW DV codec.

    morning.

    pepegot1,
I can't speak for DV AVI Type 2 files, but for type 1, vdub can accept them
but just NOT the audio part. As long as you don't do any editing in it, ie
like cut out pieces or anything, then:
    * just drag your file into vdub
    * setup for frameserving, and frameserve it to TMPG
    * in TMPG, put the DT1 file into TMPG's Audio linebox and
THEN do your editing there via the sourceRage.

Now, I'm not sure if vdub works or not w/ DT2 files, but I'll assume that it
does, and that your issue is w/ DT1 files. So, w/ type in mind, if your app
allows you to select a different Type file, then try and use the Type 2 instead,
and proceed to import it into vdub.

There's another option, called a conversion between Type 1 and Type 2,
but if you have Gigs of AVI's to do, you'll need lots more HD space, and
don't forget, it will add lots more to your time - lots more! So, I prefer
not to mention this file - actually, I can't remember the name of it. I only
use it if I really need to, like on less than 100MB size only. It is slow!!

    OR,
    * you could mux out the audio part of your DT1 and into an WAV
    file
    * how?
    * one way is to open TMPG,
    * File/Output to file/Wavefile and locate your DT1 file and saveAs a WAV

    AND,
    * THEN, you could just drag your file into vdub
    * Audio/WAV Audio/ locate your WAV file and proceed to import it, then
    * here, you can do editing ie, like cut out parts etc.
    * then, frameserve it to TMPG
    * do somemore editing if you like, and proceed to encode

There are many other "methods", but these may stir up others to post theirs

    Thank you all

I loaded the Mainconcept codec & got software to convert to AVI 2. Everything went well.

    Thank you very much.
